A Food Truck Mystery - Book 1

Great food, still competition and murder ...

As a fan of cooking and baking shows, I was excited to read this story of Beth, Seth, and Rylie in their Kluckin’ Good food truck. The setting was fun. The competition and food talk were fun. Overall, I thought the story was good (maybe a bit too long), but I did not connect with the main character, Beth. At times, it was hard to remember she was in her 20s. I get how she has had to have a thick skin and prove herself. There were some poignant societal points made in a non-lecture-y way. If I had to choose a favorite character, it would be Rylie, an awesome ride-or-die friend, aka sidekick sleuthing partner.

I am not sure I get why Det. Kane seems to have an interest in Beth. She thinks he is cute and is responsible for his new nickname. Throughout, though, we have some actions by him that seem to indicate interest. The interaction between the two detectives gave some unexpected comic relief.

The mystery itself felt slow in the middle, then redeemed itself in the second part. I can honestly say I didn’t figure out the motive or the killer, that’s a good thing. Will I continue the series? Yes, I am curious where the food truck goes next and if I will grow to like Beth.

Thank you to #NetGalley, #CrookedLaneBooks, and #SpotifyAudio for the opportunity to do an early read and share my thoughts on the story.

Happy Reading!

Plot Summary

A food truck run by twins serves up a clucking good murder in this cozy debut mystery, perfect for fans of Lucy Burdette and Joanne Fluke.

When their late aunt Dolly passes away, twins Beth and Seth Lloyd inherit a chicken themed food truck. Despite the challenges, the siblings rise to the occasion, even going as far as signing up their truck Kluckin’ Good to compete on a top cooking show and ruffle a few feathers for some good publicity. But the competition goes from heated to lethal when a contestant is found dead.

With the elimination competition becoming far too literal, Beth and Seth will need all the help they can get to get out of the frying pan without landing in the fire. Relying on their assistant-turned-friend Rylie for help, they’ll have to follow the bread crumbs to untangle a very twisted case before either one of them is put on the chopping block.

This humorous series debut with a mouthwatering mystery will charm readers and keep them guessing right until the not-so-bitter end.
