A Killer Getaway

by: Sienna Sharpe

A Novel

  • Rating: full starfull starhalf starstar outlinestar outline (2.5/5)

Not what I expected.

A not-so-common premise, a female serial killer - maybe. From the summary, we know that each summer Lily Lenox goes to a resort that has had mysterious deaths. We’re given the motive, making toxic people pay. I settled in thinking a bit of intrigue, a bit of homicide, and a little romance along the way.

This story is much more. The setting is a wellness resort with beautiful staff.  There is body shaming, a bit of ageism, bullying, and depression. There is a character or two that seems superfluous. Lily’s background is sprinkled throughout and shapes the person that she is when she is at the resort.

I think others will find parts to relate to and may find themselves engrossed in the story. I didn’t. I did like the theme about taking responsibility and doing what’s right, even if it is hard.

Early in the story, I figured out a few things that turned out to be true with a couple of surprises. Everyone was flawed, not all good and not all bad. The choices made were the same, not all good, not all bad. Like the premise, the setting, and the thought-provoking ideas. The rest no.

Thank you to #NetGalley and #SourcebooksLandmark for the opportunity to read and share my thoughts on the story.

Happy Reading!

Plot Summary

Falling in love can be murder...

No one in Lily Lennox's life can understand why, for each of the past five summers, she has shut her successful business and chosen instead to be paid minimum wage lifeguarding at the exclusive Riovan Wellness Resort on a sun-soaked Caribbean island. Fortunately for her, they also aren't aware of the mysterious deaths that have occurred on the island every time she's there.

Lily always does her best not to attract attention. She is determined to make toxic people pay for the damage they do - and when your mission is murder, it's best not to draw suspicious eyes. But this year a very attractive journalist, Daniel Black, is asking a few too many inconvenient questions. Is he there to hunt her down? And if so, how will she manage her growing attraction towards him - at the same time as getting away with murder?
