Death at a Scottish Wedding

by: Lucy Connolly

A Scottish Isle Mystery - Book 2

  • Rating: full starfull starfull starfull starstar outline (4/5)

A snowstorm and a gothic and Celtic themed wedding in a castle, what could go wrong? Uh, a murder!

I didn’t pay attention to the summary, I just wanted to listen to the wonderful dialects and accents. The narrator did a fantastic job in An American in Scotland, Scottish Isle Mysteries, Book 1, so when this one became available, I grabbed it.

The story … lots of twists and turns, not to mention suspects. Everyone is invited, including all of the “steps” as in all of Angie’s stepmothers. The groom’s family dynamics and the “steps” made for lots of stress for the happy couple. The mystery around the murder victim and the murder itself was well done with a snowstorm trapping everyone at the castle, one of Laird Ewan Campbell.  Luckily, the Laird aka Constable has extra men at the request of Damian’s father, a self-important, and I guess important man. Abigail, has Em covered with a kit that is designed for home visits and is perfect for this multi-day celebration. I feared there would be multiple deaths with so many people trapped together.

Poor Em got hurt again in this case, luckily her friends were around to help her. Loved that Tommy was not just being checked on by Abigail. Speaking of Abigail, she was amazing and really coming into her own, maybe even a little romance.

The stage is set for the relationship to change between Ewan and Em. I feel like it has mostly been Em making things difficult and Ewan kinda chuckling at her, maybe not out loud.

The references to some favorite British and Irish TV shows as well as a quick Scooby-Doo reference made this a really fun read with chuckle moments to offset the seriousness of the murder and drama of the wedding.

Happy Reading!

Plot Summary

Dr. Emilia McRoy is back on the case in the second book in the Scottish Isle mystery series, perfect for fans of Sheila Connolly and Charlene O’Connor.

Something old, something new, something borrowed and someone’s blue…

Finally feeling like Sea Isle, Scotland is becoming her new home, American doctor Emilia McRoy is delighted when she is invited to a wedding at Morrigan's Castle. Her friends have warned her that it's a three-day party and it's bound to get wild, not to mention the impending snowstorm. Constable Ewan Campbell, owner of the castle, ensures their safety with the blizzard. What he didn’t ensure, is that all of his guests would survive the night alive. When Emilia explores the impressive castle, she finds a dead man in one of the turrets.

The snowstorm hits and the local police can’t reach the castle until it lets up. With no one able to leave, the family insists they carry on with the wedding, which makes Emilia's job as the coroner a bit easier—the suspects are in one place––and complicated because the killer has Emilia in his sights. The fact no one claims to know the victim isn't helping. Why would someone no one knows be murdered at a castle in the middle of nowhere?

It’s up to Emilia to uncover the mystery who the victim is, so the killer doesn’t get away Scot free.
