British Book Tour Mystery - Book 2

  • Rating: full starfull starfull starfull starstar outline (4/5)

In book 2 of this series we learn a bit more about Claire's family relationship with her sister Deidre and niece Kayla joining the tour. Unlike book 1 the tour members is around for most of the mystery.

While touring the spots used for some of the members favorite books we uncover sad news about one of them, the impetus for their participation in the tour. I was glad for the outcome which did not heap any more sadness into their lives.

We also are treated to a mature relationship between Claire and Detective Inspector Mark Evans. This is not just about the places authors use as the setting for their books, there were some interesting conversations about author responsibilities to readers, book banning, monogamy, sexual freedom (author Mary Wesley), drug use, Miss Seaton, Poldark, the tv show Doc Martin, and other references to keep one on their toes.

Oh and of course the money issue, those feeling entitled when they should not.

One note about the narration, perhaps it was just me, but every so often the voices of the tour members seemed to change.

Speaking of the tour members, there is an intrigue subplot with them.

Happy Reading!

Plot Summary

Claire Barclay is enthusiastic about her British Mystery Book Tour business. She enjoys taking her guests, usually from America, to the settings of mystery novels where bodies are long dead. Her neighbor's plea for help to deal with a recently murdered well-known author unsettles her. She leaves the body to the police and takes her guests to Cornwall, including a British tourist who far is too interested in the dead author.
